Akwa Ibom State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Comrade Iniobong Essien has responded to the rumoured defection of former senate minority leader Senator Godswill Akpabio to the ruling APC.

While speaking on a radio programme a while ago Comrade Essien debunked rumours that he had joined the former governor to decamp, stating that “I have not left the PDP and have not even contemplated doing so”.

The Akwa Ibom State PDP spokesman also reiterated that the Deputy Governor of the State, Mr Moses Ekpo who is currently in the United States of America attending the conference of Ati Annang has also not resigned his position. The office of the deputy governor yesterday in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekikere Umoh had debunked rumours of Mr Ekpo’s defection and pledged loyalty to Governor Udom Emmanuel and the PDP.

When asked if the defection of Senator Akpabio will impact negatively on the party’s fortunes in the coming elections, Comrade Essien responded by saying “no one is a super man. No one is extraordinarily different. It is the people that give you the chance to lead them. It is the people that give you an opportunity”.

Comrade Essien added that while the party has made futile moves to get Senator Akpabio to speak on the rumoured defection, the PDP in the state is united behind Governor Udom Emmanuel.
