DR CHRIS EKPENYONG TO REPLACE SENATOR AKPABIO.
Following the defection of former Akwa Ibom State Governor to the ruling
All Progressive Congress, stakeholders and elders of Akwa Ibom North West(Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District have resolved to ensure he is returned to his Ukana Ikot Ntuen hometown.
Rising from a meeting earlier today, the leaders endorsed former Akwa Ibom state deputy governor, Obong Dr Christopher Stephen Ekpenyong(Ukara Akpa) to replace Senator Akpabio at the red chamber under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
Dr Ekpenyong was deputy governor to Obong Victor Bassey Attah between 1999 – 2005 when he left office under controversial circumstances. He contested the governorship primaries under the PDP in 2007.
Those present at the endorsement of Dr Ekpenyong include Deputy Governor of the State, Mr Moses Ekpo, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem(PDP National Legal Adviser), Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien amongst other leaders of the zone.
While both Senator Akpabio and Dr Ekpenyong hail from the same federal constituency, only time will tell who will emerge victorious between the two political heavy weights of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.
